In addition to the rice terraces, the temples around Ubud are also of great importance. Two of the most famous are the Tirta Empul and the Gunung Kawi. Tirta Empul is a water temple. Famous for its sacred springs many believers come here to perform ritual washings. The impressive architecture of the temple reflects Balinese architecture and spirituality. Gunung Kawi, another important temple, consists of shrines carved into the rock, which date back to the 11th century. This temple offers a glimpse not only into the architectural techniques of the past, but also into the religious life of the Balinese people. These temples and terraces together represent the cultural richness of Ubud and invite visitors to learn more about the traditions and customs of this fascinating region.
