After breakfast, you will be driven to Agra.
Agra is still associated with the Mughal period in terms of its ambiance.
The Mughals were not only rulers, but also great builders and their best architectural wonders for Agra and its surroundings can still be admired today. Besides the many wonderful monuments, the Taj Mahal is the largest of all.
It is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture at the highest level. But not only the Taj Mahal, but also the abandoned capital of Akbar and Fatehpur Sikri, are each unique and outstanding in their own right.
Their architectural genius can also be seen in the forts, palaces and aesthetically landscaped gardens – each one is a silent witness to a golden age.
Today you will visit Fort Agra – the seat and stronghold of the Mughal Empire for generations to come. This was the seat of the Mughal rule and administration.
It owes its current structure to Akbar, who built the walls and gates and the first buildings on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River.
Shah Jehan added the impressive quarters and the mosque, while Aurangzeb added the outer walls.
Visit its Hall of Public Audiences and its Royal Pavilions.
Afterwards you will take a tour to the world-famous Taj Mahal (UNESCO World Heritage Site), which is particularly beautiful at sunrise.
The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had this 58-metre-high and 56-metre-wide mausoleum built in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal (Arjumand Bano Begum), who died in 1631, on a 100 x 100-metre marble platform by thousands of craftsmen in 22 years of construction.
Persian architecture and Indian architecture form a harmonious combination here.
Around the white marble mausoleum, framed by four minaret-like towers, an 18-hectare garden with an elongated water basin was created.
