Welcome to the pearl in the Indian Ocean – Sri Lanka.

Usually, you will have an overnight flight and arrive early in the morning at Bandaranayake International Airport in Colombo.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your personal guide/chauffeur and driven to your hotel on the golden beach of Negombo in about half an hour.

Accommodation: Jetwing Sea Negombo Hotel, Deluxe Room, Negombo, incl. breakfast

Today you will leave your beach resort in Negombo and head towards the Cultural Triangle to Sigiriya.

Enjoy your stay in the unique tree house surrounded by tropical flora.

Hidden in 4 acres of forest at the base of the Pidurangala rock is our retreat, which the villagers themselves have named as “Kurulu Uyana” – Bird Park.

A bird park in the wilderness it certainly is, but there is even more that you can enjoy.

Accommodation: Back of Beyond, Tree House, Sigiriya, incl. breakfast

Today you will visit the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa, the historically second capital of Sri Lanka in 1,070 AD.

Embark on an exploration tour with your guide through the extensive area with its ancient ruins of the royal palaces, water and parks from a long-gone dynasty.

In the afternoon we go to the Minneriya National Park for 3 – 4 hours on a jeep safari.

Before sunset, the best time is to see leopards hunting, crocodiles sunbathing, elephants playing in the water, and many species of birds and reptiles.

Highlights in Minneriya NP are first and foremost a huge ancient reservoir, which was created as a water reservoir for the nearby royal cities as early as the 3rd century, the reservoir is now a paradise for waterfowl and various species of deer.

In addition, the park is home to one of the largest meeting places for Asian elephants on the continent.

But not only elephants pass by the visitors here, but also the endemic white-bearded langurs and Ceylon hat monkeys, Sambar and Ceylonese axis deer, Sri Lankan sloth bears and leopards and the gray slender lorikeet.

The huge water reservoir makes the park one of Sri Lanka’s most important bird areas, with 160 specimens.

Accommodation: Back of Beyond, Tree House, Sigiriya, incl. breakfast

After breakfast, make your way to another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lion Fortress of Sigiriya.

The fortress was built in the 5th century by King Kassapa I on the monolith, a magma block of an eroded volcano.

Halfway up, you will discover the frescoes of the “Cloud Girls”, images of the most beautiful women from all over the world, which the king had made there bare-breasted.

Shortly before the northern plateau is the Spiegelwand, a rock wall that the king had polished to a high gloss during his lifetime.

From the top, you will experience a breathtaking panoramic view over the Sri Lankan wilderness.

Accommodation: Back of Beyond, Tree House, Sigiriya, incl. breakfast

After breakfast, you will leave the Cultural Triangle and have a slightly longer drive (approx. 4 1/2 hours) ahead of you until you reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site Knuckles Mountain Range.

Once there, your experienced mountain guide and the trekking team will welcome you.

Afterwards, you will start your unforgettable expedition to the biosphere reserve. Even though the nature reserve accounts for only 0.03% of Sri Lanka’s total landmass, the number of species-rich flora and fauna, especially endemic species, is disproportionately high.

Accommodation: Wild Glamping, tent, Knuckles Mountain Range, incl. full board

Today you will explore the untouched nature of the national park, discover the variety of bird, mammal and reptile species, endemic plants, hidden waterfalls and enjoy a breathtaking sunset by the campfire in the wilderness.

It is worth leaving around 2:30 a.m. You will discuss the exact route with your guide at your hotel. Also because of the heat, you should avoid one ascent during the day.
