The Golden Temple and the cave temples at Dambulla are the most beautiful and best-preserved temple complexes on the island.

Please note that it is too hot at noon to walk barefoot (shoes and stockings must be removed before entering). You will not only experience the mystical and unique temple complexes, but will also meet monkeys and monks on the way there and enjoy an incredible view over the varied landscapes of Sri Lanka to the famous Lion Rock.

Your beautiful resort to Sigiriya with fantastic views of the Lion Rock and the wild nature.

Accommodation: Aliya Resort & Spa, Deluxe Room, Sigiriya, incl. breakfast & dinner

After breakfast, your chauffeur will be waiting for you at the lobby for today’s tour to another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lion Fortress of Sigiriya.

The fortress was built in the 5th century by King Kassapa I on the monolith, a magma block of an eroded volcano.

Halfway up, you will discover the frescoes of the “Cloud Girls”, images of the most beautiful women from all over the world, which the king had made there bare-breasted.

Shortly before the northern plateau is the Mirror wall, a rock wall that the king had polished to a high gloss during his lifetime. From the top, you will experience a breathtaking panoramic view over the Sri Lankan wilderness.

Afterwards you will visit the old royal city of Polonnaruwa, the historically second capital of Sri Lanka in 1,070 AD.

Embark on an exploration tour through the extensive area with its ancient ruins of the royal palaces, water and parks from a long-gone dynasty.

Accommodation: Aliya Resort & Spa, Deluxe Room, Sigiriya, incl. breakfast & dinner

Today your journey continues towards Kandy and you will explore one of the famous spice gardens on the way.

Enjoy the native varieties such as paprika, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, tasting of spiced teas, and your guide’s introduction to the therapeutic virtues of each plant.

After your arrival and check-in, enjoy the amenities of your 5* resort.

Located in Kandy, Amaya Hills, a leading 5-star hotel in Kandy, offers a hillside retreat overlooking Heerassagala Forest. Known as one of the best luxury hotels in Kandy, this hotel features traditional Sri Lankan architecture, an outdoor pool, a spa and a restaurant.

Accommodation: Amaya Hills Kandy, Deluxe Room, Kandy, incl. breakfast & dinner

Nuwara Eliya is located at an altitude of 1,800 meters and therefore offers a varied, pleasant and refreshing climate. This is also the reason why some of the best tea varieties in the world grow here.

You will see for yourself during a walk through the tea plantations, where you will experience the traditional and very careful harvest by hand, on a guided tour of the tea factory and then during the tea tasting of various types of tea (including the royal and most expensive tea varieties in the world).

The absolute highlight in the Horton Plains is an approx. four-hour circular hike to the proverbial “World ́s End” in the southeast of the Horton Plains, a spectacular steep slope with a fantastic view.

This almost 10 km long hike from the parking lot is almost flat. On the way you will pass the 20-meter-high Baker’s Falls.

In terms of wildlife, the most spectacular and endangered animal in the park is the red slender lorikeet, a species of primate with an extremely cute face.

Until you arrive in Ella, you will experience the most beautiful views of the central highlands of Sri Lanka, along the picturesque tea plantations, tropical rainforests and the small traditional villages of the locals. Your chauffeur will then be waiting for you at the station in Ella to drive you to the plateaus of Ella to your dream resort 98 Acres.

Tip for the afternoon: Take a hike to the world-famous Nine Arches Bridge – one of Sri Lanka’s most famous photo opportunities.

Along the way, you will also find a variety of restaurants offering Western and Sri Lankan food.

Accommodation: 98 Acres, Deluxe Room, Ella, incl. breakfast

Enjoy your breakfast with a fantastic view over the Sri Lankan plateaus to Adam’s Peak.

Afterward, your private guide will be waiting for you at the lobby to explore the highlights of Ella with you.

Little Adam’s Peak, five minutes from 98 acres, is Ella’s most popular tourist attraction, similar to Adam’s Peak, offering a short half-hour climb to the top for panoramic views of an endless valley, tea plantations, and waterfalls.

Another historically rich must-see site is the Ravana Ella Falls, which is considered one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

The falls are part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, which is also home to the famous Ravana Cave, which is known and has gone down in history as the place where Seetha from India was kidnapped and imprisoned by King Ravana.

Accommodation: 98 Acres, Deluxe Room, Ella, incl. breakfast

Today we drive about 2 1/2 hours to the Udawalawe National Park. The park is associated with elephants in Sri Lanka as it is home to one of the largest populations of wild elephants. Udawalawe is also known for its elephant orphanage, which was established in 1995 to prepare orphaned elephants for their return to the wild.

In the afternoon, around 3:00 pm, you will head to the Elephant Transit Home, where you can watch the elephant wise children being fed. At a sufficient distance, they will not be disturbed by tourists.

In the afternoon we go to the park for 3 – 4 hours on jeep safari. Before sunset is a good time to watch leopards hunting, crocodiles sunbathing, elephants at the water games and many species of birds and reptiles.

Accommodation: Jungle Paradise, Deluxe Room, Udawalawe, incl. breakfast & dinner

After your check-out, your journey will take you to Yala National Park.

Arriving at your hotel, you will already feel the neighboring wilderness up close. The hotel complex virtually merges with the national park. The lake landscape opposite the pool complex is home to crocodiles, deer, pelicans, and many other wild animals.

Even elephants and leopards regularly roam the hotel grounds. Therefore, in the dark, you will always be accompanied by an experienced gamekeeper of the hotel through the hotel grounds to your Jungle Chalet.

A stay in this luxurious and wild hotel complex is a highlight in itself and a dream for every nature and animal lover.

Accommodation: Cinnamon Wild, Jungle Chalet, Yala NP, incl. breakfast & dinner

Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka

Sri  Lanka’s cultural triangle forms a central point for travelers who want to delve deeper into the island’s rich heritage and history. This region includes the historic cities of Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, which together bear an impressive testimony to Sri Lankan civilisation. A highlight of the cultural triangle is Anuradhapura, the first capital of Sri Lanka, known for its enormous stupas, including the famous Sri Maha Bodhi. This tree is considered the most sacred symbol of Buddhism and attracts believers from all over the world.

The Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as the Lion Rock, not only offers spectacular views over the surrounding landscape, but is also a masterpiece of architecture and art. The remarkable frescoes and the ancient water gardens show the sophistication of the engineers and artists of the time. Considered by many to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this site is an absolute must-see for history and culture buffs.

Polonnaruwa, which is also part of the Cultural Triangle, presents the remains of another significant city that ruled during the second heyday of Sri Lankan history. Here you will find the impressive ruins of temples, stupas and palaces that illustrate the legacy of the royal family of Parakramabahu I. The cultural significance of these places is documented by the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which preserve the treasures of ancient Sri Lanka.

To explore the cultural triangle, there are various transport options. From the capital city of Colombo, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are relatively easy to reach by car. Sigiriya is often visited on a guided tour. We recommend that you allow adequate time to explore each of these historical sites in order to truly grasp the cultural and spiritual depth they exude.

The magical Lion Rock in Sigiriya

The Lion Rock in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, is considered one of the most impressive archaeological wonders in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site attracts numerous visitors every year. They are fascinated by the unique combination of breathtaking nature, significant history and extraordinary architecture. Originally built as a royal fortress in the 5th century by King Kassapa I, the Lion Rock rises majestically above the surrounding countryside and offers a view of the unspoiled beauty of Sri Lanka.

The architecture of the Lion Rock, which has been incorporated into the rock itself, is remarkable. Access to the summit is via a stone staircase that leads through the impressive Lion’s Head. Once at the top, visitors will enjoy a spectacular panoramic view that reaches to the horizon and bathes the surroundings in a fascinating light. In addition to this impressive view, the frescoes that adorn the walls of the rock are another highlight. These vivid representations from antiquity show women in various poses and are considered masterpieces of Sri Lankan art.

The best time to visit Lion Rock is during the cooler months from December to April. Then the temperatures are more pleasant and there is less chance of rain. For the climb we advise to start early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat of the day. The climb can be challenging, but the rewards at the summit are undeniable. Visitors should bring enough water and wear comfortable shoes to successfully complete the adventure. With its majestic presence and rich history, the Lion Rock in Sigiriya is indeed an unforgettable experience.
