Welcome to South India!

Today you will arrive at the international airport in Cochin.

After customs, immigration formalities and baggage claim have been completed, you will be met by our representative.

Afterwards you will be transferred to the hotel.

Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and recover from your flight.

The rest of the day is at your leisure.

The city of Kochi, better known as Cochin, consists of many parts.

For a long time, Kochi played a key role in the development of trade and transport in the region.

Kochi’s excellent location on the west coast, its bay and its sheltered harbour made it popular with many seafarers and merchant ships who anchored here to load spices, coffee and wood on their voyage to Europe and West Asia.

And so Kochi flourished over time as a bustling port city and trading center. Its coastline is still very important for Cochin and India: it is home to a naval base and the busiest port in India

Accommodation: Dutch Bungalow (4*), Boutique Room, Cochin, incl. breakfast

After a relaxing breakfast at the hotel, your guide will be waiting for you at the lobby for an exciting city tour of Cochin.

First, you will visit Matancherry in Cochin, followed by the oldest Jewish synagogue in India, built in 1568.

We continue to the Dutch Palast.

This was destroyed by the Portuguese and rebuilt a century later by the Dutch. Afterwards you will see the typical Chinese fishing nets.

These fishing nets are fixed land installations for an unusual form of fishing.

You will then visit the Church of St. Francis (Vasco da Gama’s Tomb), the first church to be built in the new, European-influenced tradition.

Vasco De Gama died here in 1524 and was originally buried in the cemetery.

(Dutch Palace: closed on Friday) (Synagogue: closed on Friday and Saturday)

In the evening, relax with the Kathakali dance performance.

Kathakali katha stands for story, kali for performance or acting, and is an expressive form of Indian dance or dance drama.

It’s a spectacular mix of drama, dance, music, and ritual. Characters with vividly painted faces and elaborate costumes tell stories from the Hindu epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Today you will be driven to Munnar.

Surrounded by lush, carpet-like tea and coffee plantations, Munnar is a picturesque hill station located in the eastern part of Kerala.

The city is under the influence of three mountain rivers – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kudala – and is known for its clean, tidy and bright ambience. The beautiful scenery, pleasant weather, and smell of tea leaves make Munnar one of the most popular destinations in South India.

These were also the reasons why the British always retreated to Munnar when the heat and humidity in other parts of Kerala were very high.

Munnar is located near Anaimudi Peak, the highest peak in the Western Ghats. The mountains here are covered with a carpet of flowers in bloom.

Here you can also find an exotic plant called Neelaku runji, which only blooms every 12 years.

Attukal is an ideal place for long trekking tours and is located between Munnar and Pallivasal.

The panoramic waterfalls and gently rolling hills make it beautiful to look at. Nyayamakad is an excellent place for picnics and trekking, and is located 10 km from Munnar, near Rajamala.

Nyayamakad is the land of sparkling waterfalls, and the water sometimes falls from a height of up to 1600 m.

Accommodation: Tea County (4*), Deluxe Room, Munnar, incl. breakfast

After an early breakfast, visit the famous tea museums and tea plantations.

Along the fragrant tea plantations, on a clear day, on the highest peak “Anaimudi”, you can contemplate the water reservoir of the Idukki Dam, the highest arch dam in Asia and the third highest dam in India.

On the way, you will have a picnic at one of the most beautiful places before continuing to the highest point at 1950 meters above sea level.

Along the way, you will have the opportunity to observe many endemic bird species.

Your chauffeur will finally be waiting for you after about 5 or 8 kilometers from Munnar, towards Mankulam Road at the destination point, to take you back to your hotel.

Today you will be driven to Periyar.

In Periyar National Park, you can observe wild animals from a boat.

It is located in the Western Ghats in the southern Indian state of Kerala, and together with the Tiger Reserve, it is one of the most captivating game parks in the world.

At the heart of this sanctuary is a picturesque lake.

Herds of elephants and sambar, gaur and wild boar wander through the park to the lake and can be observed from the boats that cross the lake.

Periyar is also home to leopards, wild dogs, barking deer and other species of roe deer. On the stony surfaces along the lake, you can also see lizards bathing in the sun.

Accommodation: Cardamom County (4*), Periyar Cottage, Periyar, incl. breakfast

Today after breakfast at the hotel, you will explore the Periyar National Park during an exciting boat cruise on Lake Periyar.

With a bit of luck you will also see large, wild herds of elephants. Before returning to the resort, visit the exotic treasures of South India in a spice garden.
