Accommodation: Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, Autograph Collection, Superior Room, Kuala Lumpur, including breakfast

After your breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby for your private Kuala Lumpur City Tour.

The tour will first take you to the confluence of the Klang & Gombak Rivers, the site of Kuala Lumpur’s humble beginning. Continue to see the splendor of the Royal Palace, followed by the National Monument at the Lake Gardens, a sprawling 91.6-hectare expanse of immaculate lawns, undulating hills and meticulously manicured gardens, a scene of harmony, beauty and tranquility, both natural and man-made. Continue to the beautiful National Mosque. Pass the train station and stop at Independence Square before the tour continues on a fascinating drive through Chinatown.

The first part of your private tour ends with a fantastic panoramic view from the Petronas Tower Bridge.

Then the second part of your private tour to the Batu Caves & Suburbs of Kuala Lumpur begins. The tour begins with a trip to the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur city, passing by the embassy streets, Istana Sharif Ali and some Malay settlements. Highlights include a visit to the Royal Selangor Pewter, which has the most modern and largest pewter factory in the world, internationally renowned for its high quality and craftsmanship. You will be given a tour of the factory to see how pewter is made. The last stop is at the limestone hills of Batu Caves, an outcrop that houses a Hindu temple. One has to climb 272 steps to reach the top and the temple. Batu Cave is a famous pilgrimage site for the Hindus during the “Thaipusam” festival (usually either in January or February every year according to the Hindu religion calendar).  Then return to the hotel.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is located 24 kilometres from central Kuching and offers an excellent opportunity to observe semi-wild orangutans in a natural environment. This orangutan rehabilitation centre receives orphaned or rescued orangutans and trains them to survive in the wild. Over 20 orangutans live in the forest within the conservation area and often return to the centre for additional feeding. The feeding area is located in a natural amphitheatre where it is possible to observe the orangutans coming down from the surrounding forest for the food provided. The rangers will provide information on the purpose of the centre and the conservation goals.

The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Accommodation: Grand Margherita Hotel, Superior Room, Kuching, breakfast included

Breakfast at the hotel.

Free time in the morning.

At around 4pm, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kuching and transferred to the Santubong Boat Club (30 minutes) where you will board a boat and begin your cruise along the rivers, streams and mangroves of the Santubong Peninsula. The cruise will first head to the mouth of the Santubong River where Irrawaddy dolphins are regularly spotted. From there, you will continue along the mangrove-lined rivers and estuaries in search of wildlife, including proboscis monkeys. Groups of these endemic Borneo monkeys are often seen among the mangroves at the water’s edge.

As the light fades, your boatman will search for fireflies and crocodiles. Crocodiles are sometimes spotted on the muddy river banks by the reflection of their eyes reflected by a torch shining across the water. Fireflies congregate along certain areas of the river. Watch the fireflies light up the branches of the mangrove trees before returning to the boat club and then returning to Kuching.

Accommodation: Grand Margherita Hotel, Superior Room, Kuching, breakfast included

Breakfast at the hotel.

Around 08:00am, pick up from your hotel in Kuching and drive to the small town of Lundu, arriving at the park headquarters around 10:00am.  Start the tour with a visit to the park’s interpretation centre to learn about the ecology of the Rafflesia flower.

When a flower is in bloom, hike along one of the park’s trails (10-30 minutes) to see the amazing Rafflesia. Along the way, your guide will point out the host vines and the cabbage-like Rafflesia buds littering the forest floor. After seeing the Rafflesia, return to the park headquarters or hike to Waterfall. Leave the park around 1pm and have lunch at a local cafe in Lundu (included). Then head to Siar Beach for a swim.

If a flower is not in bloom, leave the information center and walk for about 30 minutes to Waterfall No. 1. This waterfall is located 600m from the park headquarters and is accessible via the park’s main trekking trail that leads to the peak of Gunung Gading. Waterfall No. 1 consists of a small waterfall and a series of rock pools where you can take a dip in the cool water amidst the rainforest. After enjoying the rainforest scenery, walk back along the main trail for 10 minutes until you reach the Rafflesia Trail plankwalk. This goes through a hilly rainforest area where Rafflesia flowers can often be seen.  The Rafflesia relies on a host vine – the Tetrastigma. These vines and the brown Rafflesia buds can be seen along the plankwalk. Return to the park headquarters and leave Gunung Gading at around 1pm. Lunch at a local cafe in Lundu (included). After lunch, drive (15 minutes) to Siar Beach. Time to relax at Basaga Holiday Resort and swim in the sea or the resort pool. Depart Siar Beach at 3:30pm and return to Kuching, arriving at approximately 5pm.

Nowhere in this massive cave is the roof less than 90m high. The cave has a moon-like landscape and from a vantage point a perfect profile of President Lincoln can be observed. Next to Deer Cave is Langs Cave. The stalactites and stalagmites in this cave are representative of the best limestone formations in the park. After touring the two caves, head to the Bat Observatory outside Deer Cave. Most evenings at sunset, a spectacular exodus of around 2 million bats can be seen as they leave the cave in search of food. A short walk along the limestone cliff followed by a climb of about 250 concrete steps and you will reach the entrance to Clearwater Cave. Like most caves in Mulu, Clearwater Cave provides a habitat for unique plant species. One of these, the single-leaf plant, is only found at Mulu. Photosensitive algae grow on certain rocks and form needle-like formations that point towards the light source. There is a beautiful swimming area near Clearwater Cave shaded by huge rainforest trees. Enjoy a simple picnic or packed lunch, swim or relax before returning to your accommodation.

Introduction to Sabah and Sarawak

Sabah and Sarawak are two states in Malaysia that are located on the stunning island of Borneo. These regions are known for their outstanding natural beauty as well as their cultural diversity. Surrounded by dense rainforests, majestic mountains and abundant wildlife, Borneo is a true paradise for adventurers and nature lovers.

Sabah, located in the northeast of the island, is characterized by the famous Kinabalu Mountains, which are the highest elevation in Southeast Asia. The stunning landscapes and great biodiversity found in national parks such as Kinabalu National Park make Sabah a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. In addition, Sabah is home to the unique orangutan habitat at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where visitors can experience these fascinating animals up close.

On the other hand, Sarawak in the west of the island offers an equally impressive backdrop. Sarawak is known for its vibrant indigenous cultures, including the Iban and Bidayuh, who live deep in the forests. Here, adventure travelers will find the opportunity to tour traditional longhouses and participate in cultural festivals that reflect the values and customs of these communities. Bako National Park is another highlight, where hikes to spectacular coastlines and encounters with a variety of wildlife, including the rare proboscis monkeys, offer an unparalleled experience.

Adventure opportunities in Sabah and Sarawak are varied, ranging from trekking and bird watching to caving and whitewater rafting. The combination of fascinating nature and rich cultural diversity makes these regions a unique destination for those looking for unforgettable adventures.

Kuala Lumpur: The first steps of your adventure journey

Kuala Lumpur, the vibrant capital of Malaysia, is the perfect starting point for your adventure through Sabah and Sarawak. The city combines modern attractions with cultural diversity and is rich in sights that captivate every visitor. Among the most famous landmarks are the iconic Petronas Towers, which, at an impressive 452 meters, are not only the tallest twin towers in the world, but also a symbol of national pride. A visit to the Petronas Towers offers the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking views from the Skybridge.

Another highlight are the Batu Caves, which are located in the middle of an imposing limestone hill. This impressive temple complex attracts both believers and tourists. The ascent to the caves requires 272 steps, but rewards visitors with mesmerizing views as well as the magnificent Hindu temples inside the caves. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.

For an authentic dining experience, the Central Market offers a variety of local delicacies. Here you can taste the wide range of traditional dishes and also buy handmade souvenirs. Its location near Chinatown makes it an ideal place to explore the charms of old Kuala Lumpur after your meal.

In Kuala Lumpur there are plenty of options available to you, from luxurious hotels to cozy guesthouses. We recommend to book hotels near the Petronas Towers or Central Market for easy access to the main attractions. Your time in Kuala Lumpur will provide the ideal start to your trip to the Malaysian rainforests. It will also provide unforgettable impressions and cultural experiences.
