Welcome to Sumatra.

Upon arrival, your private guide and chauffeur will be waiting for you to meet you and drive you to your resort in Medan, where you can relax and acclimatize in a tropical atmosphere from your long flight by the pool.

Your private guide will of course be happy to answer any questions you may have about your travel planning.

Accommodation: Hotel Deli River, Deluxe Cottage, Medan, incl. breakfast

Leisure.

Surrounded by a lush tropical garden, Hotel Deli River offers a unique experience for your stay in the city of Medan.

Located 12 kilometers outside the city center, 1 hour’s drive from Medan’s Kuala Namu Airport, the cottages are surrounded by a rich variety of fruits and plants native to North Sumatra, such as rambutan, jambu, sawo, mango, palm trees, banana trees and a wonderful variety of tropical flowers.

Your hotel is home to more than twenty species of different exotic birds in the tropical garden.

Each room has hot showers with solar energy, TV with international channels, free water, coffee and tea and free Wi-Fi access.

Accommodation: Hotel Deli River, Deluxe Cottage, Medan, incl. breakfast

On arrival, enjoy the magnificent views of the tropical rainforest and the river that flows past your lodge (a popular playground for large monitor lizards).

After freshening up, today you will go on a discovery tour through the jungle of Tangkahan with your private guide.

Your experienced guide will explain everything you need to know about the unique flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest and make sure that with a little luck you will spot wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, elephants, and many other exotic animal and plant species on your trekking tour through the dense jungle and crystal clear rivers.

The tour also takes you along mysterious-looking caves with ancient stalactites and stalagmites.

To top it off, you can glide along the Batang Serangan River on floats and feel like you’re dancing through the jungle.

Accommodation: Jungle Lodge, River View Room, Tangkahan, incl. Jungle Lunch

Today you have the unique opportunity to wash and bathe the patrol elephants in Leuser National Park.

Please note:

The elephants are not circus attractions for tourists – they are the heroes of the jungle and work for nature conservation!

In Indonesia (and all of Southeast Asia), elephants have been used as farm animals for thousands of years, just as horses are used in Europe and America. The elephants are bred and spend the weekdays in the jungle, not in cages or enclosures. They have been used for centuries as a means of transport through the jungle to combat illegal loggers and poachers.

The patrol elephants and park rangers in Tangkahan enjoy our highest respect.

The elephants, of course, deserve good treatment and also enjoy being washed and bathed.

Afterwards we continue by jeep towards Bukit Lawang.

On the way you will see many plantations of the most exotic fruits and get in touch with the local population during some stops.

Once you arrive in Bukit Lawang, you will first check in at your lodge and then go with your guide in search of wild orangutans and other native wildlife in Leuser National Park

The small oasis is a 1-hour walk or 15-minute motorbike ride from Bukit Lawang, on the tranquil Landak River overlooking Gungung Leuser National Park.

Your luggage will be brought to the guesthouse for you.

It is the only guesthouse on site, perfect for nature lovers, with an abundance of nature right on your doorstep.

After your check-in, your guide will go in search of wild orangutans and other native wildlife in Leuser National Park.

Accommodation: Batu Kapal Guesthouse, Deluxe Room, Bukit Lawang, incl. breakfast

Today begins a private adventure/camping tour through the world-famous Leuser National Park.

At the hotel, it is best to sort your belongings the day before that you need during the trekking and please keep the rest in the lodge.

After breakfast, which is provided by the Trekking Orangutan Sumatra team, you will then hike into the jungle. Throughout the day, you’ll spot wildlife and learn more about orangutans (their behavior, lifestyle, and social skills).

The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides a safe home for the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan, the Sumatran tiger and the Sumatran rhinoceros.

75% of the wild orangutan populations live in this park. Therefore, the chance of wildlife observations is particularly high.

Macaques, langurs, gibbons, peacocks, flying squirrels and hornbills also like to be seen frequently.

Your guide will tell you a lot of interesting facts about the trees/plants that can be used in traditional medicine along the way.

After lunch, continue your trek to camp on the edge of the Bohorok River.

You will then have the opportunity to swim, help prepare dinner or go fishing.

After dinner, weather permitting, our team will prepare a campfire and the guides will entertain you with their jungle skills, games, and songs before you settle down to sleep.

After breakfast, you will start a 6-hour hike towards the Landak River together with our jungle guide team.

They wander deeper into the jungle. As you venture deeper into the rainforest, your chances of encountering wildlife increase. The terrain is steep, but the views will be spectacular.

At noon, your guides will prepare a simple jungle lunch at the top of a hill.

The fantastic scenery in the national park will be an unforgettable experience for you.

The campsite for the second night is located next to the large Landak River, where you will arrive in the late afternoon.

There is a great chance of seeing wild orangutans and black gibbons.

If you’re lucky, you may spot the Sumatran tiger, deer, wild boar, and other inhabitants of the tropical rainforest.

As the trekking progresses, you will get more and more used to setting up camp, preparing a real jungle dinner, and working together as a team.

Our team will provide you with an Indonesian fresh health meal and refreshments before you can daydream to the sounds of the nightly jungle life.
